With the emergence of TMT Promotions it could happen sooner rather than later. TMT is the abbreviation of The Money Team of rapper 50 Cents , real name Curtis James Jackson III and WBC World boxing champion Floyd Mayweather.
At this stage of the proceedings it is not possible to gauge how deep would the value be to boxing by the emergence of TMT. What is known is that the two principals 50 Cents and Floyd Mayweather Jr. are loaded with cash and are not afraid to spend it.
However money is not the only ingredient needed to ensure success as a promoter of boxing.
Donald Trump decided there was more security and growth in the more orthodox businesses of construction and building and owning golf courses, and they came with less Rocky mountains to cross.
Neither 50 Cents nor Floyd Jr. is able to remotely match the business intellect of Donald Trump, so much more evidence is required before a positive assessment is able to be made on the proposals presently in the public domain of the proposal of TMT with regard to boxing.
To date there has been no positive statements on how TMT propose to operate but there has been no shortage of speculation and names of boxers that are said to have signed with TMT include IBF featherweight World Champion Billy Dib (35-1, 21 KOs), WBA featherweight World Champion Celestino Caballero (36-4, 23 KOs) and former champ Yuriorkis Gamboa (21-0, 16 KOs.)
Andre Dirrell (20-1, 14 KOs) has also signed with TMT. Andre retired from the Showtime Classic Boxing series due to reported neurological problem and he took leave from boxing for a two years span. Apparently the medical problem has been cleared and Andre has been promised a promotion fight to box for TMT on November the 17th.
To make an impact on World boxing, boxers bigger in size and reputation are going to be needed by TMT.
The big question is centred on whether the real purpose of TMT is to make the big bonanza of Floyd Mayweather Jr. – Manny Pacquiao and then fade from the boxing promotion scene, or is the business plan based upon long term intentions?
So far the failed negotiations to come to an agreement on Pacquiao – Mayweather Jr. have been conducted by Bob Arum of Top Rank versus Richard Fleischer and Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions, two deeply opposed protagonists, with Bob Arum leading the charge.
There is no doubt that 50 Cents has proven he knows how make big money but boxing is not a business where words and music are the ingredients. What is important to The Sweet Science is the big question related to TMT on what is the true reason for formation of TMT?
